Count Basie: The Old Testament – Six-Week Online Class

A historical exploration of the world of legendary jazz pianist Count Basie beginning with his roots as the kid from Red Bank, New Jersey, through his Kansas City years, and focusing on his first legendary swing era big band spanning over a decade from the mid-1930s through the late-1940s. While an emphasis will be placed on Basie both in and out of context, the class will also examine his key collaborators of this period including Lester Young, Walter Page, Jo Jones, Eddie Durham, Bennie Moten, and many others.
Instructor: Nick Rossi
NICK ROSSI is a jazz musician, writer, and historian based in San Francisco. Born in California and a part of the Bay Area music scene for decades, he is known for his stylish and studied approach to classic jazz material. A guitarist, Nick writes for such publications as Acoustic Guitar and The Fretboard Journal. Rossi is also a valued researcher who continues to contribute to numerous music history projects worldwide.
